What is contemporary dance?
Contemporary dance grew out of modern dance, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. It is open, expressive movement — less about fixed steps than about how you use space, weight, and intention in the moment.
Why this workshop at Evites
We hear from students and neighbours who want a dedicated contemporary space — not only ballet class, but a place to improvise, research, and build technique in a small group. This workshop is our answer for season 2026–2027. Dedicated for everyone aged 16+.
Margarida Silva guides each round as a series of connected weeks: partnering, improvisation, composition, and contemporary technique, with a different theme each session. The aim is eloquent, versatile movers who think on their feet and express themselves authentically.
Each round is five weekly sessions. Four school-quarter intakes from September 2026 through July 2027 (Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer) — groups of 8–12 for personal attention. Saturdays 16:00–17:15 (1h15). See the schedule below for planned dates.

Meet your workshop teacher
Margarida, our teacher for this course, approaches the body as malleable material. She often refers to natural physical forces, lines in space, and the reorganization of how movement flows through the body.
Her classes are built as a workshop series of connected weeks, designed to guide students step by step through contemporary dance concepts. Each session builds on the last and encourages a deeper understanding of movement, partnering, improvisation, and composition.
The aim is to develop eloquent, versatile, thoughtful dancers who move with intention and can express themselves authentically.
